The most ahead-of-their-time band of the past two decades was Live. Not because their music was revolutionary, but because they anticipated the internet age and chose a band name that made their songs impossible to illegally download. I wonder sometimes if they ever released a live album and if so what they called it. Not often though (about once every two years). Even the image above was difficult to source (I tried “Live Band”; “Live 90s”; “Live Ed” because I think the singers name was Ed).

Other bands that were also smart in this regard were: The The; X; The Band; Simple Minds (not because their music is difficult to download, but because they made it so awful that no-one wants to—that’s savoir-faire).

If you’re starting a band, here are some suggestions:

  1. Radio Edit
  2. Unknown Artist
  3. Track 01
  4. Virus.exe
  5. MP3
  6. Feat LL Cool J
